INTAGLIO

The intaglio printmaking technique starts by engraving the surface of a metal plate (steel, copper, etc.) with tools or acid. The plate is later coated with ink and then wiped clean leaving only ink in the engraved areas. Finally a dampened paper is pressed against the plate. Among intaglio techniques are etching, engravings and drypoint.
